After graduating from SIU Carbondale with a bachelor's degree in journalism, I worked as a reporter and copy editor for several years before returning to school to become an English teacher. I earned my master's degree from the University of Central Missouri and taught at a small, rural high school in Missouri for several years before moving to Illinois. This is my eleventh year at CMHS; previously, I taught at Southwestern High School and Lewis and Clark Community College. I am the faculty sponsor of The Eaglet, our school news site. I am also chair of the English department.
I live in Glen Carbon with my husband, Oliver, a retired newspaper editor. My daughter, Lydia, is a senior biology major at the University of Missouri St. Louis. I have a dog, Eve, and a cat, Bean. Camping and cooking are two of my favorite hobbies.
